Course description

This 3 day course is designed to support a transfer of knowledge and experience on the use of DBS for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. The course combines theoretical learning with practical applications.

Target Audience

Neurologists interested in learning more about patient selection techniques and long-term patient follow-up for Deep Brain Stimulation therapy

Topics to be covered

  • Patient selection (selection criteria, scales, tests, etc.)
  • Patient follow-up (short and long term, adapting DBS therapy to each patient, programming schemes, concomitant medication after implant, etc.)
  • Implant procedure and neurological testing during operating time (focusing on aspects of the surgery that are of interest to neurologists participating in or supporting the implant procedure)
