Course description

These 2 day tutorials offer stereotactic neurosurgeons the opportunity to expand their knowledge in the application of DBS for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. The tutorials combine theoretical learning and hands-on experience.

This course was granted 10 European CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) in March 2009

Target Audience

Neurosurgeons with at least 2 or more years of experience with stereotactic neurosurgery. Participants should be interested in the use of Deep Brain Stimulation as an alternative treatment for Parkinson’s Disease and wish to learn the practical aspects of the therapy or improve and expand their knowledge on implant techniques

Topics to be covered

DAY 1

  • Latest progress in DBS implant equipment and procedures, including practical hands-on experience
  • Techniques to evaluate correct targeting
  • Correct lead positioning to maximize patient therapy benefits
  • Tips and tricks to avoid OR and post-implant complications

DAY 2

  • Surgery in Operation Room
