Course Description

These 2 day tutorials offer stereotactic neurosurgeons and psychiatrists the opportunity to expand their knowledge in the application of DBS for the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

The tutorials combine theoretical learning and hands-on experience.This course was granted 12 European CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) in 2009 and 2010

Target Audience

Neurosurgeons with at least 2 or more years of experience with stereotactic neurosurgery and psychiatrists. Participants should be interested in the use of Deep Brain Stimulation as an alternative treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and wish to learn the practical aspects of the therapy or improve and expand their knowledge on implant techniques

Course Objectives

Day 1

  • Fundamentals of OCD 
  • Current treatment options for OCD
  • Refractory OCD and DBS
  • Psychiatric and neurosurgical selection criteria for DBS
  • Patient with longstanding DBS for OCD
  • Neuroimaging and neuroanatomy
  • Programming
  • Post-implant patient management

Day 2

  • Live preducre in OR
  • Acute postsurgical patient evaluation
